Current Projects
Gorgan - Chevron
The Gorgon Project will develop the Greater Gorgon Area gas fields, located about 130 kilometres off the north-west coast of Western Australia.
It includes the construction of a 15 million tonne per annum (MTPA) Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant on Barrow Island and a domestic gas plant with the capacity to provide 300 terajoules per day to supply gas to Western Australia.
Pluto - Woodside Project
Woodside’s A$12 billion Pluto LNG Project is set to become the fastest developed LNG project from discovery of the gas field in 2005 to first gas in late 2010. Approved for development in July 2007, the foundation project will process gas from the Pluto and Xena gas fields, located in the Carnarvon Basin about 190 km north-west of Karratha, Western Australia.
Pilbara – Cape Preston – Iron Ore Processing
CITIC Pacific, a Chinese company, is planning the development of a magnetite iron ore mine and pellet plant with a capacity of 6 Mt/a. A concentrator, pellet plant, slurry pipeline, port facilities, 240 MW power station and desalination plant will be built at Cape Preston, as well as an accommodation facilities.
Worsley/Boddington – Alumina Refinery Expansion
BHP Billiton announced in May the go-ahead for the $2.5 billion Efficiency and Growth Expansion project at its Worsley Alumina refinery. The expansion project will lift capacity of the refinery from 3.5 Mt/a through expanded mining operations, additional refining capacity and upgraded port facilities. The construction phase will start immediately and first production is expected in the first half of 2011.
Boddington – Gold Mine (Wandoo Expansion)
BGM Management Company Pty Ltd, on behalf of Newmont and AngloGold Ashanti, is developing the Wandoo project, based on mining the extensive bedrock resource that underlies the mined-out oxide resource. Production will be up to 600,000 oz/a of gold and about 20,000 t/a copper in concentrates over a 17-year mine life. Initial production started late 2008.
